The power of string takes place in the form of a drawing erected by Lead Pencil Studio artists Annie Han and Daniel Mihalyo at Suyama Space. An homage to Duchamp's 16 Miles of String., the piece is deconstructed and laid out in a new presentation to the viewer. We see lengths of string subsuming the space creating volume and form. The natural light and the very nature of the space make it an ever changing artifact of human interaction. As one critic observed:
"Han and Mihalyo operate on the art end of architecture, creating installations in the gap between architecture and site-specific artwork. At Suyama Space, they chose to activate the stylishly raw front gallery instead of filling it. Following the Stoics, of course, means Lead Pencil thinks it is full already." -- Regina Hackett

Being in the middle of the sea of string is slightly like the visual pleasure of rain. The filament mutes the space from the cavernous to the intimate. At the epicenter of the installation a 360 degree view reinforces this intimacy making for a personal moment for meditation and pause. Below is a digital panorama to give you a virtual view of what this installation is all about. {QuickTime Player needed}
Update! Time-Lapse Documentation
Daniel Mihalyo said "We had a friend do it. He has a Canon Rebal 6mp digital camera that has a time lapse mode. We shot one frame every minute for 24 hours."
