October is here and the Visual Arts Season is in full swing here in Seattle. From academic departments to artist's cooperatives there is much to see in this city. Some misguided folks on Capitol Hill are trying to give Pioneer Square a run for their "First Thursday" money. My advice for the folks on the hill is to quit pushing the hipster bibelots, get more serious venues on board, and choose a different day of the month. In Seattle, the action is downtown and here are a few reasons why.

Susan Bennerstrom at Davidson Contemporary
310 South Washington Street
Seattle, WA 98104
Gallery Hours: Tue-Sat: 10 to 5:30
Davidson Contemporary presents Within, new oil pastel paintings by Susan Bennerstrom. In the fall of 2004, Susan Bennerstrom was in residency at the Ballinglen Foundation, located in Ballycastle on the west coast of Ireland. Instead of focusing on the stark Irish landscape, which she has painted before, she found herself attracted to the architecture of the spare buildings around her studio. She began with modest studies of the cottage next door to her. These explorations inspired her to further investigate the formal possibilities around her, primarily the interior space of her cottage and the foundation’s buildings, resuming the artistic path she has been following over the last several years.
