Thousands Gather For Not-In-Our-Name Protest Seattle, WA On Sunday, 6 October, in Volunteer Park, thousands of people gathered to make an anti-Iraq war protest. The protest was peaceful and went off with no serious events. It was the largest protest in the city since 1999's World Trade Organization meetings drew tens of thousands to Seattle and culminated in broken windows, tear gas and lingering distrust between police and demonstrators. Dozens of Seattle police officers shadowed the peaceful march. "What we have today is nothing less than the hijacking of our democracy," Pramila Jayapal of the Hate-Free Zone told the crowd in Volunteer Park. "But here, today, we say we will not stand for that." Lena Tuffaha of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee added: "Bush thinks that there is only one prescription for what ails this country: war, war and more war.” The marchers then gathered together and marched to Westlake Center.
